Next time you decide to step away from Firefox for a little bit, make some sangria!

You’ll need:

  • 1 pint strawberries, sliced
  • 2 peaches, pitted and sliced
  • 1 large orange, sliced
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup orange brandy (e.g. grand marnier)
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1- 11/2 bottles dry spanish red wine (e.g. Rioja)
  • Club soda

You’ll do as follows:

  1. In a large bowl, combine strawberries, peaches and orange
  2. Add the sugar, brandy, orange brandy and orange juice
  3. Stir gently, cover tightly and refrigerate overnight
  4. Add wine
  5. Taste the mixture and add more sugar if you like
  6. Pour over ice, add a splash of club soda
  7. Enjoy

  1. I have some crappy merlot and sherry I refuse to drink. Think that’ll work in place of the rioja?

I seem to recall drinking one or two glasses of both white and red sangria sometime in a London Tapas joint with you.

The white had to’ve been made from something other than rioja. A Sauvignon Blanc maybe?

JF, I think it’s more about the fruit/brandy/sugar concoction that’s currently marinating in my fridge than the wine you use… There’s enough sugar in there (from the fruit and sugar) that the wine takes a back seat to the rest of the ingredients :-)
So to your crappy wine and sherry reserves….. go on and mix them up!

  3. awesome. you finish your first batch yet or wot?
